What is a Consensus?

A consensus occurs when a group of people accepts a course of action without the need for a vote. Once all attendees have formed a mutual agreement, then a consensus is achieved.

Unlike a majority vote, supporting and opposing votes are not called for. Instead, a consensus states that all participants should arrive at a decision that everyone can support. A consensus enables everyone to recognize that while the decision may not be perfect, it is acceptable and the discussion can move on.
