What is Adjournment?

A motion to adjourn is a formal process that concludes a meeting. Meetings are often adjourned once the time for the meeting has ended or the board has finished discussing the agenda. Should there be pending items to be discussed, they can be moved to the next meeting. Before adjourning a meeting, the chair has to ensure all critical matters have been addressed. If there is nothing left to discuss, the chair can adjourn the meeting without presenting a motion.
