What is a Search Engine?

A search engine is a set of programs accessed through a browser that searches for and locates information in a database based on the user’s query. Search engines work by crawling, indexing, searching, and ranking the pages in the search engine page results (SERPs). Examples of common search engines include Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
