On the Road to the Future with Mobile Devices

Another new year is here. With 2013 gone and 2014 in our midst, this means we’re already almost halfway through the second decade of this millennium. Time surely flies fast, and so does technology. We have to do everything we can to keep up; otherwise, we’d get left behind.

With that in mind, here are a few questions: Are you stuck in the old ways of doing business? In this age of proliferate use of tablets and smartphones, are you still dependent on paper? Is your definition of collaboration limited to face-to-face interaction? Are your meetings dictated by participants’ schedules and locations?

If your answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then now is the perfect time to try something new. Three years from now, in 2017, 5.1 billion people will be using mobile phones. That’s almost 1 billion more than the 4.3 billion people already using mobile phones in the present. This increase in number means that mobility will become a global norm. We’ll be connected to the Internet and with each other all the time wherever we may be, so we’ll mostly be doing both business and leisure online. This will be made easier by cloud storage, which makes our data accessible whenever. What seems to be a novel idea now will be mainstream in a few years.

But why wait until when you can try it now? There is an abundance of collaboration and productivity apps for either iOS or Android in both the Apple Store and Google Play, respectively. Windows isn’t far behind, too. Some of the apps are for individual use, while others are for the enterprise. Functionality varies as well: There are apps for bookmarking, taking down notes, setting up reminders, scheduling appointments, etc.

Meetings are not exempted. You’d think we’ve done away with meetings by now, but since they’ve proven to be an essential part of business, we have the next best thing: meeting apps. There are many available solutions for enterprise meetings and board meetings for all sizes — you’ve just got to choose which one to use. So whether you’re holding a one-on-one interview or a conference, yes, there’s an app for that.

If you’re looking for something specific, you can always check out Convene, our very own board portal solution that works on the iPad and Android devices. It’s a great tool to use for remote, paperless board meetings because of its tight security and collaboration features. Busy directors no longer need to travel to one place to work together when they can simply log into the Convene app and securely access meeting files.

There’s nothing wrong with compromise, of course, but if you’re always sacrificing your time just to accommodate other people’s schedules, then you’ll appreciate what Convene can do for you. With our board portal solution, directors can attend board meetings and catch up on meeting files according to their own schedule, and without having to step on someone else’s.

The present and the near future are all about productivity and collaboration on the go. Work and play are both at the tips of our fingertips, making it easy for us to switch at a moment’s notice. This is how we roll in 2014 and beyond.
